University of Liverpool Autism HUB

The University of Liverpool Autism HUB was founded in 2023. It brings together a team of autistic and non-autistic people, including:

  • Academics
  • Researchers
  • Charitable organisations
  • Clinicians

All members share a common commitment to advancing autism research that is inclusive, collaborative, and impactful.

What We Do

  • Host three free public events each year
  • Promote acceptance, awareness, and understanding of autism
  • Facilitate and encourage new, effective ways of working
  • Conduct innovative research shaped by the priorities of autistic people
  • Ensure experiential knowledge is at the core of our research
  • Support participatory research that is done with, not just about, autistic people
  • Translate research into meaningful impact on autistic people’s daily lives

Why It Matters

  • We prioritise involvement of autistic people as participants and co-researchers
  • We believe that autistic voices must be heard, seen, and understood
  • We are committed to co-production, equity, and real-world change

What the Autism Hub Team say…

"We feel it is important to prioritise opportunities for involvement in participatory research, and to ensure that the knowledge generated from our research is appropriately utilised, so that we can ensure it has meaningful impact on the everyday lives of autistic people."
Dr Jennifer Kirton

"It is incredibly important that autistic people feel heard, seen, and understood in research, and that is what we are striving to do at the Hub."
Dr Idalmis Santiesteban
